- WHAT IS ANDON?
- From the perspective of Manufacturing, Andon is a system which notifies personnel of production issues. Alerts can be activated manually by operators on the production line. The system may include a means to stop the production line so that the issue can be resolved.
- Andon systems typically indicate where an Alert was generated and may provide a description of the issue. Most modern alert systems use audio, text, stack lights and/or displays to communicate issues.
- The word "Andon" is a loanword from the Japanese language, originally meaning "Paper Lantern".
