OVERVIEW

The information provided below is intended for the IT Department. This will additional details on Static IP and DHCP Reservation options.

GENERAL

The VersaVision software is a system that enhances the notification of issues through Communications, Escalations and Real-Time Information (Dashboards & Audio/Visual).
All user interfaces to the software are primarily web-based. This means a user can access information from a web browser.
In order for the VersaVision system to function properly and allow users to reach the software (Applications, Dashboards, Administration and Other Components) an IP address that doesn’t change is required.
There are 2 approaches to establish this:

Static IP - A static IP address is simply an address that doesn't change. Once your device is assigned a Static IP address, that number typically stays the same until the device is decommissioned or your network architecture changes. Static IP addresses generally are used by servers or other important equipment.
DHCP Reservation - The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) Reservation feature allows the router to reserve the lease of an IP Address for use of a specific device on your network, effectively ensuring that the router does not assign the IP Address to other devices in the network. This reservation is setup using the devices MAC Address.

OVERVIEW - STATIC IP

With a static IP address, you are hard coding the basic network information into the computer itself.
In this case, it doesn’t go out to the router/DHCP server to get an IP address, it uses the one programmed/hard coded into it.
Not only does this include the IP address, but it includes the default gateway, subnet mask and any DNS servers.
If VersaCall is providing the computer running the VersaVision software and the network information is provided before shipment, this information can be pre-loaded/pre-programmed.
If the customer is going to setup the Static IP on-site, IT will need to modify the appropriate net plan configuration file. Please contact VersaCall Support for assistance.

OVERVIEW - DHCP RESERVATION

With a DHCP reservation, IT/Network Administrator would program the Router/DHCP Server with an entry which would map the VersaVision Computer MAC address to a dedicated IP address.
When the VersaVision Computer is connected to the network, it will ask the Router/DHCP Server for an IP address. Since it has a "Reserved" address, the IP address will ALWAYS be the same.
On a VersaCall Provided Computer, the MAC Address will be printed on a label If the computer running the VersaVision software was provided by VersaCall, it will have the MAC address printed on a label on top cover near the back of the computer.
