Child Alert - PSM

A Child Alert is an Alert that is a sub-category of a main Alert. The user can embedded a branch/choice within an Alert.
The sections on this page apply to the Mode of the Main Alert. The Main Alert can be set to Mono-State, Dual-State, Tri-State or Label.
This page will provide information on the options available on a Child Alert when the Main Alert is set to one of the available Modes on a PSM configuration.
To access the Child Alert setup of an Alert, the user will need to select the Add Child Alert button on the Main Alert Properties.

Ensure the Main Alert is setup as Mono-State. Select the Add Child Alert button.
Click in the Alert Name field on the Alert Properties.
Enter a name for this Child Alert. Click on the down arrow in the Mode field.
The only option that will be available is "On Start" - select this option.
The Child Alert will be shown to the Operator when the Main Alert is Started/Set.
Each Child Alert will have additional options.

Ensure the Main Alert is setup as Dual-State. Select the Add Child Alert button.
Click in the Alert Name field on the Alert Properties.
Enter a name for this Child Alert. Click on the down arrow in the Mode field.
The there will be 2 options shown in the Mode menu. Select the best option for the Alert being created.
- On Start - selecting this option will allow the operator to see/select the Child Alert when the Main Alert is Set/Started.
- On Clear - selecting this option will allow the operator to see/select the Child Alert when the Main Alert is Cleared/Ended.
Each Child Alert will have additional options.

Click in the Alert Name field on the Alert Properties.
Enter a name for this Child Alert. Click on the down arrow in the Mode field.
The there will be 3 options shown in the Mode menu. Select the best option for the Alert being created.
- On Start - selecting this option will allow the operator to see/select the Child Alert when the Main Alert is Set/Started.
- On Respond - selecting this option will allow the operator/responder to see/select the Child Alert when the Main Alert is Responded/Acknowledged.
- On Clear - selecting this option will allow the operator to see/select the Child Alert when the Main Alert is Cleared/Ended.
Each Child Alert will have additional options.

Ensure the Main Alert is setup as a Label. Select the Add Child Alert button.
Click in the Alert Name field on the Alert Properties.
Enter a name for this Child Alert. Click on the down arrow in the Mode field.
There will be 4 options shown in the Mode menu. Select the best option for the Alert being created.
- Mono-State - this mode would make the Alert Set and Clear at the same time. Operator would press the button 1 time.
- Dual-State - this mode would make the Alert Set on the 1st button press and Clear on the 2nd button press. Operator would need to press the button 2 times.
- Tri-State - this mode would make the Alert Set on the 1st button press, Respond on the 2nd button press, and Clear on the 3rd button press. Operator would need to press the button 3 times.
- Label - this is a button that acts as a Label where 1 or more Alerts can be added to it.
Each Child Alert will have additional options.

When setting up a Child Alert for a Process, the setup is the same as a Root Alert. The Root Alert will have the ability to add Child Alerts.
Select the Process from the Monitoring Points section.
On the Process Properties section - select the Child Alert button
